All-Hazards Disaster and Tsunami Warning

Every day, a threat or emergency endangers the lives of our citizens.   Recent events such as the tsunami in Southeast Asia, Hurricane Katrina and 9/11 have forced our nation to understand that we now live in an “all hazards” world.

The need to effectively manage a disaster has put pressure on emergency officials to ensure they have the proper tools to respond to a major emergency.  The public outcry over what did not go well during Hurricane Katrina and other weather-related disasters have forced local emergency managers to make sure they are properly prepared.

One of the most important tools available to disaster management is an emergency control mass notification system. In today’s world being prepared to rapidly disseminate accurate emergency information to the affected public before, during and after a disaster is critical in protecting life and mitigating casualties. Whereas detection of the threat is necessary in order to generate timely alerts, detection is insufficient, by itself, to save lives and minimize chaos.  It is the actual warning to people in the affected areas, and the take-action instructions provided to them in a timely and coordinated manner before, during and after an emergency that is significant in an overall effective mitigation response.

How will you communicate to the public before, during and after an emergency?

Cooper Notification's WAVES (Wireless Audio Visual Emergency System) and TACWAVES (Tactical WAVES), a portable system, are designed to alert, warn and inform people of what to do in an emergency or disaster. The emergency control Mass Notification Systems (MNS) broadcast safety sirens, live and recorded voice messages and visual alerts via wireless networks that continue to operate during a disaster. Those in immediate danger areas whether indoor or outdoor can be alerted quickly and accurately. From speaker sirens to indoor speakers and from strobes to LED display signs, WAVES can send emergency messages in a variety of formats.

Another way to broadcast messages is through RSAN, a high-speed notification system that automatically contacts persons via text messaging, voice calls and email to deliver incident-specific information or potentially life-saving instruction.

WAVES is the most reliable, field-proven system to serve your emergency MNS needs today and in the future.
  • All-hazards WarningCommand and Control (C2). WAVES provides the user a sophisticated, but easy-to-use C2 augmentation capability, emergency managers to rapidly alert the public of imminent danger and efficiently control their response before, during and after a man-made or natural disaster.
  • Indoor and Outdoor Alerting.  WAVES offers both indoor (Individual Building MNS) and outdoor alerting, (Giant Voice/Speaker) as well as County-Wide MNS.
  • Regional Control Capability.  WAVES can integrate multiple sites into a broader regional control system. WAVES Regional Alerting System provides remote access and control of numerous WAVES from a primary location such as a Regional or County Emergency Operations Center and can be a critical piece of any over-the-horizon alert systems such as the tsunami alert systems currently under development in the Pacific Rim region.
  • Secure/Robust Communications. WAVES offers a variety of communications capabilities, both wired and wireless to deliver the necessary voice and data information. MadahCom’s ‘flagship’ communication network is based on its digital Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology with superb anti-jamming capabilities and high immunity to interference, eavesdropping and spoofing as well as protecting the network in the event of a disaster.  Other communication solutions include UHF, VHF, POTS, and Ethernet.
  • WAVES is  modular, scaleable, and mobile
    • Easy to expand systems and capabilities in response to growing needs.
    • Relocation of installed WAVES systems can be accomplished with ease.
  • Integration Capability. WAVES has the capability to integrate with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and other designated C2 systems for improved system management and situation awareness.  It can also be integrated with sensor and detection systems, including systems such as tsunami warning systems, chemical sensors, intrusion detection, access control and fire alarm panels.
  • Portable Field Units. TACWAVES, containing low and high power mobile speaker systems, offer portable field notification units for operations within disaster areas or temporary events.
  • WAVES can be programmed to display its graphic user interface in any language desired.
  • Remote Activation. Users can remotely access the WAVES base station and activate critical mass notification functions via telephone (including cellular) or a networked computer, as well as local wired/or wireless activators.
  • Zones and Subzones. WAVES sends specific alerting message to the affected areas (zones) as well as notifying the appropriate personnel, whether onsite or offsite.  Different messages can be sent to different zones (speakers).
  • CAP. MadahCom’s mass notification systems can communicate with the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), an XML-based data format for exchanging public warnings and emergencies between alerting technologies. CAP allows a warning message to be consistently disseminated simultaneously over many warning systems to many applications.
  • ISO 9001:2000 Certification - MadahCom holds the most-advanced certification, representing a strict quality system that meets the requirements of the International Quality Management Standards.
WAVES will enable emergency and security managers to ensure that critical information is provided to the right people, at the right time, and in the right manner.
